The Interstate Committee of CIS on Knowledge Promotion and Adult Education was established on January 17, 1997 by the decision of the Heads of Government of Commonwealth of Independent States to coordinate works in the field of dissemination outstanding achievements in science, technology, culture and adult education of the CIS states as a main structure of independent social industry.
The Committee carries out its activity in accordance with the generally acknowledged principles and standards of international law and basic documents of the states-participants of the CIS. The main tasks of the Committee are the integration processes development and international contacts to promote formation of united intellectual-informational space, knowledge propaganda and consolidation of creative and scientific potential in solving social and economical issues.

The main directions of the Committee activities are:

• cooperation with the interstate (intergovernmental) bodies of the Commonwealth, state agencies, scientific and social organizations in the field of knowledge dissemination and adult education;
• creation the modern conception of knowledge dissemination and adult education;
• arrying out activities to form united intellectual-informational and educational space on the territory on the CIS, creative use of the available educational level of the population, cultural legacy and international contacts. Exchange of experience in the field of knowledge dissemination and adult education;
• assistance to the CIS states in development and realization of the national programs to increase individual's intellectual potential with the help of the social important projects aimed at adult education and society sustainable development;
• preparation and approving new approaches to the realization of perspective social technologies in the interests of the individuals and ethic improvement of the society;
• participation in creation of the united information base including the one using automated system of the information exchange among states-participants of the CIS in the field of knowledge dissemination and adult education;
• promotion the process of mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates and other education documents, certificates of one's qualifications improvement or acquiring new professions in the CIS and abroad.
